TAKING THE BULL BY THE HORN.

While certain members of Parliament clearly have other priorities than reviewing and passing legislations, one fact became abundantly clear. Government should refrain from getting involved in promotions/throwing parties and concentrate on the "people' business.

We are being faced with many seriously pressing issues, one of which being our "BOB" (boys on the blocks). As early as 6:30 in the morning the gathering begins until late into the night. Where are we, at present, with the GB3 program? What is being done to really get our boys off the blocks" by providing employment/business opportunities? Another urgent matter facing us for quite some time now is the deplorable conditions of our "public" schools qua cleaning and minor maintenance. It is clear that the present systems/contracts are not working. The question is, why not link the two and find a permanent solution?

We recently found, almost, one million Guilders to have some of our leaders play party/event planners. Why can't we find a fraction of one million Guilders to employ/contract our own to work and maintain our schools? Government owned companies all seems to be doing just fine. Why not seriously invest in both our schools and "BOB"?

How many "Public" schools do we have on the Island? Let's say 15, meaning that we can "start" by putting, at least, 15 "BOB" to work as follows. Give them a Contract (SLA) of let's say 1.700,00 US$ p/m, supply them with startup tools, fi, rakes, shovels, brooms, gloves, garbage bins and bags, paint, items used for painting, potty etc. Based on their age brackets, medical insurance, pension plans and life insurances should be extremely low while saving Govt. thousands in taxes and medical coverage annually. Give them an incentive to start their own small businesses, resulting in a win, win situation.

Over a period of time persons, now employed by Government (public works) or with Contractors used by Government will be going on pension. By using these "BOB" to fill those voids will secure a permanent flow of employment while minimizing new "BOB" by means of rotation. The same system could be used for our young women reference cleaning services. What would this cost Government? Using rough calculations we are looking at (start up): 15 persons x 1.700, 00 USD x 12 months = 306.000,00 USD per year plus tools. If properly implemented, this should be an investment that will not fail but rather, will "kill 2 birds with one stone. It is time to start investing in our own first. Think about it. #sxmmovement.
