Installation of Transmission Cables from Power Plant to New GEBE Pond Island Sub Station 70 percent complete.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Development, Environment and Infrastructure (MinVROMI) and GEBE, have been working together on a project that entails the installation of 6.5 km of additional electricity transmission cables from the Cay Bay Power Plant to the new GEBE Sub Station on Pond Island.

The four phase project is 70 per cent complete, with a completion timetable by the end of 2013.

The investment being made is due to the growth in the country's population. Additional cabling gives GEBE a flexible network and levitates the load on the existing high voltage cables.

Currently civil works is being executed in and around the Fresh Water Pond, and a road crossing on the Fort William Road, where conduits will be installed. This section is scheduled to be completed by mid-December.

In order to realize the project and to minimize inconvenience to the public, visitors as well as limiting damage to the environment, MinVROMI and GEBE worked out a well-defined route for the civil works.

All stakeholders are very pleased with the execution of the project to date, and the balance of the civil works for phase four will be resumed after the holidays.
