Weekly public Open House of Parliament starts November 6.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Everything is in place for the public Open House at Parliament on November 6. The open house will take place on a weekly basis.

In order to increase general knowledge about the House and its procedures, the public are invited to mark the date of Wednesday, November 6, and every Wednesday thereafter from 9:00am to 11:00am.

Parliament is one of the institutions that the nation has seen functioning since Sint Maarten attained country status on 10-10-10 within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The Parliament of Sint Maarten is the highest legislative body of the country and currently comprises of 15 members.

The main tasks of Parliament are the ratification of legislation and the exercise of control on government policies.

The objective of the Open House is to further enlighten the community of the country about the important role of the House of Parliament. It is an institution that impacts the lives of the people depending on the type of legislation that the House can draft and approve.

Visitors to the House of Parliament have to abide by a dress code. They must dress appropriately: no slippers remove hats/caps while in the House, and no strapless clothing.

The staff of Parliament will be available during the Open House to provide information to visitors. The Parliament is located across from the Court House on Wilhelminastraat 1.
