Career & Study Fair to be held on Thursday.

PHILIPSBURG:--- The St. Maarten Career & Study Fair Committee is once again finalizing preparations for the annual Career & Study Fair, scheduled for Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Bel-Air Community Center.
Under the theme "A Better Future Through Better Education," the fair will accommodate all pre-exam students from all secondary schools on the island from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The Career & Study Fair will be open to the general public from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm.
Educational Institutions
Participating colleges and university representatives from St. Maarten, Curaçao, Aruba, the United States and Holland will be on hand to share information about their academic institutions and services. In addition to local educational institutions such as the University of St. Martin, and SBO–St. Maarten, representatives from the Study Financing Department and Student Support Services will be in attendance to provide information to the public regarding their services. Furthermore, Study Financing from Holland (DUO) will be present to share updates in the recent changes pertaining to revised education developments in Holland.
Royal Netherlands Marines
The Royal Netherlands Marine Corps have recently completed a detachment in St. Maarten, located in the harbor. A couple of their tasks are to protect the sovereignty of St. Maarten, Saba and Statia in making sure that the islands are not abused by criminal organizations. They will also be assisting partners, such as the coast guard, customs and police, to stabilize the judicial order in the area. Another of their tasks is to provide emergency assistance in case of natural disasters, such as hurricanes.
As this is a new detachment, they will be recruiting at the Career & Study Fair by providing information to any students that are interested in joining.
Coast Guard, Korps Politie, Customs, Fire Department, Prison
Aside from the Royal Netherlands Marines, various other public safety and security organizations will be in attendance at the fair, such as the Coast Guard, Korps Politie Sint Maarten, Customs, the Prison, and the Fire Department. They will also be providing information to persons that are interested in joining their forces.
Tourism Corporations
Various companies that are prevalent in the tourism industry, such as the PJIAE, Winair, the Harbor Group of Companies and the Tourism Bureau will be there to provide information about their businesses, and what opportunities are available for students interested in obtaining a job after high school.
Medical & Insurance Organizations
Another aspect of the career fair will feature medical organizations such as the St. Maarten Medical Center, Nagico Insurances, Mental Health Foundation, Sociale Ziektekosten Verzekering, and St. Maarten White and Yellow Cross' District Nursing and Baby Clinic providing information to students.
Local Businesses
There will also be local businesses and organizations in attendance, such as Telem N.V, BDO Accountants, and GEBE.
"We are grateful for the financial institutions, companies and colleges that are participating in this event. The information they provide will be helpful to our youth when deciding what their next step would be. Some youngsters will also use this opportunity to obtain more information on a particular career they might be interested in", committee officials said.
This annual event promises to be very informative and will serve to support the decision-making process in furthering one's education. The general public is invited to come out and benefit from the information and advice that will be made available. The fair will be open from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm.
