sundialschoolhealthandwellnesspbandbstudentsandvolunteersfordiabetestesting14112013PHILIPSBURG:--- The Rotary of St. Martin Sunrise and Sundial Health and Wellness PB&B sector Diabetes testing under the guidance of Rotarian and Teacher Jacqueline Morris went well on Saturday; Angela Gordon President of Rotary Sunrise, Mr. Rogers Executive Director of Sundial and MPC, and Principal Mirielle Peterson opened the testing event.
The event saw a cross section of the community came to be tested; this activity provided the students with hands-on practical approach, which enhances their learning and development of their Care and Wellness skills. The students displayed professionalism in their undertakings and they too were pleased with the persons they assisted.
We had the assistance of two (2) nurses from the Medical Center, Diabetes Nurse Dion Thustfull, and Chiropodist (a person who treats minor disorders of the feet) Zenia Duncan. The forms from this activity will be turned over to the Diabetes Foundation for their database.
It is evident that people are increasingly feeling the effects of diabetes as thousands of people suffer from the disease, and many others may have diabetes without knowing it.
The Health and Wellness sector of Sundial School is and will continue to focus on educational program that promotes healthy living, school spirit and community involvement.
Manrique Caprilles was on hand to supply the participants with cookies, cake, coffee and lemonade all sweetened with splenda.
We at Rotary Sunrise will continue to work with the community as the need arises.
Special thank you to Oduber agencies, Philipsburg pharmacy, Visser Pharmacy, Manrique Caprilles and the Druggist for making it possible for the Sundial PB & B sector students to display their Health and Wellness skills.
