Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise named “Club of the Month” for October 2013.

rotarysxmsunriseboard19112013PHILIPSBURG:--- The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise was named "Club of the Month" for October 2013. The club was chosen out of 84 clubs within the district.
The achievement is special for the club, as October is designated by the Rotary organization as "Vocational Service Awareness Month". It is the first time that the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise has earned the "Club of the Month" title since the award existence in 2010 onwards, the club won third place for "Rotary Awareness Month" in January 2013
The club currently has 22 members, who meet every Tuesday morning at 7:00 am for breakfast at Air Lekkerbek Restaurant in Philipsburg. The club is responsible for numerous projects designed to assist the community, and which range from fundraising events such as the successful "End Polio Now" Charity Flea Market this Saturday, to events in which the members themselves put hard work into a good cause, such as painting of the Oranje School. The club other endeavors include collaborating with the business community issuing over 800 school bags to students, supplying four schools with daily nutritious breakfast, issue eyeglasses to students, job shadowing for our youth, collaborated with sundial school in different projects along with a newly charter interact club at the school and the tremendous growth in our Readers are Leaders program where students are challenged to read at least one book per month.
The club also ran an "Active Parenting" session aimed at fathers, various projects for youth, and the club helps and supports other volunteer organizations on the island. Many of these projects have been highlighted in the media, and particularly the Active Parenting session was highly successful, with a follow up course being organized by the club.
