PHILIPSBURG:--- Minister of Labor Cornelius de Weever reacted to a radio interview attorney at law Cor Merx had recently regarding the new policy for brothel workers. The Minister said that prior to the policy being implemented a discussion on the new policy was held at the University of St. Martin (USM). He said his department provided information and answered all questions that brothel owners had, furthermore he made clear that attorney at law Cor Merx did not attend that information session. He said he did receive a call from the attorney who posed the same questions that was asked when the information session was held at USM. Minister de Weever further explained when he was asked what was the legal age for sex workers and what is the age in the new policy. Minister de Weever said at first it was 25 years of age but now government lowered the age to 21 years since it does not affect local workers.
Furthermore, the Minister stated that the brothel owners wanted it to be 18 years of age but his department went along with the age that applies in most counties.
