PHILIPSBURG:--- Caribbean Cinemas was filled with classical music on Wednesday evening as Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise held a showing of a live taping of Carmen from the New York Metropolitan Opera House. The opera was a fundraiser to help in the purchase of rehabilitation bikes for The White & Yellow Cross. The bikes will be a welcome addition to the rehab center as there is quite a waiting list for their usage. One bike in particular is used for patients who are wheelchair bound.
Carmen, the well known opera by French composer Georges Bizet, was chosen for its passion and popular arias, "Habanera" and "Toreador Song". Guests were treated to hors d'oeuvres by Moomba and wine and Perrier from Antillean Liquors. There was also a door prize of a weekend stay at Holland House, which was won by Mr. Michel Soons.
