PHILIPSBURG:--- This past Monday, the Project Management Team for SXM DOET held their first preparatory event for the 2017 edition of the largest volunteer initiative within the Dutch Kingdom. SXM DOET has been striving for growth and expansion and was happy to see the event so well attended.
The information session was held on Monday, December 12th at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library. It attracted over 40 persons representing different foundations, care centers, daycares, animal welfare organizations and more, interested in hosting a SXM DOET 2017 project. Amongst the crowd was also potential volunteers and local businesses willing to donate their time and collaborate as partners. There were many familiar faces from the last two years, but many new faces from other organizations expressing their interest in participating. The Project Management Team comprising of Fleur Hermanides and Melanie Choisy believe that this serves as an indicator of an even bigger and better version of SXM DOET in 2017, as is their goal and intention. By having more participating organizations, projects, and volunteers, great deeds can continue to be done in order to create a better future and society for Sint Maarten and her people.
During the meeting, the new and more user-friendly website was launched and potential participants received a tutorial on how to navigate it. Funding criteria and opportunities were also discussed, as well as ideas for projects and collaborations. Towards the end of the presentation, success stories from SXM DOET 2015 and 2016 were shared. The team presented the latest addition to the program which is the volunteer opportunity to assist behind the scenes as a project manager, in continuation of the 2016 social media and photography/videography project.
The SXM DOET Project Management Team would like to thank all who came out for being involved in starting off SXM DOET 2017 with a great start.
