Minister of VROMI still awaiting report from GEBE on ransomware attack.

PHILIPSBURG: --- Minister of VROMI Egbert Jurendy Doran said he is still awaiting a report from NV GEBE regarding the BlackByte ransomware attack.
NV GEBE was attacked early last week, the information was disclosed by the company on Thursday.
SMN News asked the Minister to provide additional information regarding the steps NV GEBE took to safeguard its server since the warning was issued by the FBI on February 15th, 2022.
1. Did NV GEBE have its files backed up if so the minister was asked to provide additional information on how the process was done. Was the backup done externally for example in the cloud or separately from the company's internal server.
2. The Minister was also asked if the government-owned company had cybersecurity insurance? if not why not?
3. Had any audit been conducted on GEBE's IT department, if so how long ago.
While NV GEBE informed its clients on Thursday not to open any emails from NV GEBE email addresses since its server had been hacked, no information on the way forward has been released. Such as disconnections, payment of monthly bills, and other business-related matters.
NV GEBE has filed a complaint with the prosecutors' office since the attack, and the investigation is ongoing.
