Knowing and documenting our past is one thing – charting our future is another thing.

OPEN LETTER

It was not always the case.....
Researching- and documenting our history, our past....
Too long- and still to quite an extent - others wrote and continue to write our past for us...
In doing so - they in fact continue to tell us who we are, what we as a people are capable - and especially are NOT capable of doing....
Needless to explain how that indoctrination shaped and molded our self-image and self-confidence for ages..
Then – fortunately we started producing our own native researchers, historians and authors....too many to mention...
One however, we cannot NOT mention – Danielle Jeffry – who has done a remarkable and consistent job documenting our history.
Together with others her work constitutes a veritable treasure of our past experiences as a people and it has allowed us to much better understand many WHY’S...and HOW’s happening to us today...
Over time many of us have excelled in that field of historical analysis, of in fact living in that past.
But – isn’t it time to take our consciousness to the next ‘level’ ?
Passing and letting go the level of EXPLAINING the PAST ?
Of even DWELLING in the PAST ?
Of getting STUCK in the PAST ?
Of LIVING in the PAST ?
Isn’t it time to realize that there is also a FUTURE ?
To PREPARE for the future ?
To CHART the FUTURE before it too disappears into the annals of the past ?
We believe- that if we as a people would only focus on the PAST – OTHERS might make use of that shortcoming and start charting the FUTURE ...
A FUTURE not necessarily in OUR favor – and why should they ?
In that case - we will indeed continue to excel in RECANTING what happened to us in the past and continue to cry, to blame, to re-act and to accuse others who simply took it upon themselves to focus on charting the FUTURE....
Isn’t that the reason, why increasingly St. Martiners are being left behind in the overall development of their own country ?
Lack of being PRO-ACTIVE ?
An interesting case in point.
Our plans to start a St. Martin nation building television program with a broad-based, multi-ethnic input is not (yet) understood by some of our people.
Would they prefer to wait until some-else takes the initiative to produce- and host such a program and perhaps even leave St. Martiners out, so that once more they will be on the outside complaining ?
Or would they assume their morally legitimate role as HOST of this country and be the one doing the inviting, selecting and setting the rules of engagement ?
Our Grassroots movement is not going to belong to the group of St. Martiners, who always re-act, complain and accuse – we will be pro-active and let the ‘clock’ do its best to keep up with us.
In ending we call on all conscious St. Martiners to complement the work of our historians by now becoming ARCHITECTS of the future, by becoming the new Jules Vernes of our time.
Let us now start DESIGNING the FUTURE St. Martin mindful of our past and being aware of the great foundation laid and invaluable contributions made by our historians.
Create a culture of bold, intelligent imagination and force Father time to work to keep up with your powerful vision.
One love,

Leopold James,
President St.Martin Grassroots People Movement – the inclusive one.
