Mr. Franklyn RICHARDS,LL.M., Lt-Governor St. Maarten,

E-mail Print PDF
Mr. Frits GOEDGEDRAG, Governor General of the
Netherlands-Antilles,

Drs. Anke BIJLEVELD-SCHOUTEN, Minister of Internal &
Kingdom Affairs,

While it is very understandable that the local St.Maarten politicians
and their cohorts on the island, are trying very hard to create the
perception, that after the recent political debacle, everything is back
to normal, we can assure you that such is most definitely not the case.

Quite to the contrary. An increasingly number of law-abiding citizens has lost every ounce of
hope that the local body politic has the moral authority to restore
trust in Government.

As a matter of fact, all the political machinations and maneuvering
typifying the functioning of this Government have seriously eroded
confidence in Government.

In addition, the strong public perception is, that those presently in
Government no longer are in the position to represent the best
interest of the people, because they apparently are controlled and
'held hostage' by certain 'interest-groups' with very deep pockets.

Therefore, there is a growing number of calls for some form of Higher
Supervision to safeguard the general interest of the citizens of the
island, and that can assist in 'cleaning the St. Maarten house', as an
absolute condition to proceeding with the process of constitutional
development

However, in our 'political culture', the people are not readily
provided with important information such as how to have Higher
Supervision imposed, by what procedures and by whom etc.

Also the public should be entitled to know what all the channels are to
request Higher Supervision.

It is for this reason, that we urgently request you to inform the
residents of St. Maarten of all aspects and details pertaining to the
requesting of the imposition of Higher Supervision.

At the same time, we urgently wish to indicate that the situation on
the island, does not necessarily permit us the 'luxury' of insisting on
strictly 'protocol', because such might prove to be very academic and
might come 'after the fact'.

After all, while 'prototcol' might be relevant, preventing the 'house
St. Maarten' from falling into complete 'anarchy and terrorism' might
also not be exactly a promising alternative.

Hoping to have done our part as good corporate citizens in trying to
prevent any undesirable social events, we look forward to your response
to the urgent request on behalf of all law-abiding citizens on the
island, who at this moment feel that they can not trust the system on
the island, which is still part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Needless to emphasize that any unfortunate consequences of not heeding
this warning, are for the sole responsibility of the powers that be.

We hereby rest our case to you.

Leopold James
President SNBF & L'Esprit de Concordia.

Dear Mr. James,

Like any person that is by no means tied to or dependent of this 'government', I strongly support your request for higher supervision and a return of the rule of law.

I am just wondering or the persons addressed confer with others than politicians and civil servants.

Dear Wim,

Thanks for your response and support, they are well appreciated.
You know Wim, we never pretend to have all the answers to all challenges and problems facing our community.

However, we are very concerned about the direction this island is moving into and especially the example, or better yet the LACK of proper example set by our political leaders.

It makes it very difficult, if not impossible to expect better from our young people, many of whom therefore turn to a-social and criminal behaviour.

It certainly is not what any civilized country would want for their yougsters, who are supposed to kae over the reigns of leadership in the future.

For that reason, we sacrifice ourselves time and time again to speak out and belive me, if we were not committed, we would have long since 'given up, of course to the delight of the 'powers that be''.

Thanks again.

Leopold JAMES

I am so tired of hearing Mr James asking for higher supervision!!!! For someone who claims to be in total osmosis with the indigenous sxmartiners, I wonder if he really knows what he wants. Does he really think that bringing in dutch people will solve the situation? It is going to be worse. Just take a glance at how much corruption is in Holland! It would be much more appropriate for Mr James to stop critisizing and offer his services to the population. Get involved in the politics, fight your way to take charge and then you can talk!
You talk so much that no one even pay attention now and God knows you had good ideas. But you are becoming boring now!

Dear Mr. James,

I salute you and your foundation, for your commitment and your resolve. Continue the fight and I join my voice with yours.

Like Martin Luther King, Have a Dream and keep speaking out. I'm sure many persons back in the day were tired of his dreaming and talking and his peacefull approach, many were bored, but today his dream is comming trough.

I have sat by and watched the rediculous episode that took place with our government. The in-fighting while the people are suffering. I am a mother of a child with autism who has been forced to move to the netherlands with my child in order to seek some kind of medical as well as educational attention since that is not available in our Sweet SXM land. But instead of planning for a future for these and all children this government is busy with infighting. If they would put the same intensity in their fight for sxm's future we would have been much further along. Look at the BES-Islands. Sxm needed to be the front runner in this quest for separate status we have spoken out since 2000, so why aren't we more advanced.

In the new SXM More has to be done for the mentally, physicaly handicapped the elderly etc. Their are children with mental problems like: ADHD, DISLEXIA, Autism and I can go on and on. These people also need representation.

I would love to return to my country, but does my country want me?????

To Mr.? Ms ? Mrs ? Concerned citizen ????,

Thanks for your e-mail, eventhough you chose to remain part of our problem on the island, which is not identifying oneself while very 'bravely' criticising those who take that risk, which is an essential part of any real democracy.
Real mean and women, might not always be wrong or right, but for cowards right or wrong is ALWAYS irrellevant.
Simply, because they do not respect their own thinking and can not 'own' such, so why should some-one else pay any attention, let alone agree dis-agree with such 'zombies' ?
Start live be before you die, dear 'Concerned'.
Feel proud of who you are, of your own opinion, otherwise you will never be counted....
