There's the law and there's abuse of the law. No police or gendarme should feel themselves above the law. They must abide by the law as well. Since the courts acquitted the young man, the gendarmes should not be hara**ing him. That is abuse of the law.

Not every law is just either. It was once lawful to own and abuse slaves even though that was wrong.
There were laws that allowed for cruel experimenting on human beings in concentration camps.
Once upon a time in the USA, it was against the law to make and sell or use alcohol. You would be put in jail and fined for that and all the alcohol destroyed.
Presently it is against the law to smoke one herb called marijuana, but not to smoke another herb called tobacco.

Who make the laws? Human beings do. We all know that to err is human. What should happen when laws made are downright wrong? Petition your law makers to change them immediately!

@ the above comment. I agree No police or gendarme should feel they are above the law but say what you want the young children them does trouble the gendarmes/police. In America no citizen can disrespect the police, not even the female officers; and if the officers abuse their power they are dealt with accordingly.

The youths them often bully the gendarmes/police and no body sees that but everyone quick to say the gendarmes/police bullying people. When these youths damage the gendarmes vehicles IT IS WE, WE THE HARD WORKING TAX PAYERS have to pay the bill. Instead of making the youths them feel they can bully the law enforcement, tell them to RESPECT THE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS-- It's that simple. And when the law enforcement officers abuse their power, report them! But until we have respect for our men and women in uniform WE DON'T HAVE A LAW ENFORCEMENT, AND without that, there will be no civilization. They have no occupation, and they shouldn't damage the gendarmes vehicle and then they have to put the bill on hard working people back. I neither thief, nor collect CAF nor sell drugs so they must stop damage the government vehicle.

The Gendarmes were simply the doing their job.
With all the racist and physical abuse they suffer for doing so, we should all be thankful that they can still be bothered.
The alternative is to turn the streets over to these feral gangs, who care not where their victims come from nor the colour of their skin.

the people of french st.martin, should be thankful that they have better laws than the dutch side, NO NONSENCE. the gendarmes take action fast on the dutch side everything is under investigation for years.

People stop complaining the youth on that island is totally out of control, parents stand up to your children, your parents took no crap from you, why now you are afraid of the children that you are feeding and housing. TAKE CONTROL

The reason these kids are bad is because they have not been taught manners or social skills by their parents and have probably received little or no education from the mostly crappy or unaffordable schools which exist on the island. Of course poor quality politicians, such as SWW are the root cause

The Gendarmes acted correctly. If you want to riot then you have to take what rioters get.

The Law is the Law and if this young man was being harra**ed by them then he should have filed a report long time ago against them and not just hang on the block, showing how "bad" he is.

If he was not on the street (block), hanging with his padnas/homies they would not have had the opportunity to arrest him. The Gendarmes do not bother with petty issues.

I agree with those who have spoken out about the behaviour of the children today. There are so many basketball courts, 3 sport fascilities (be they in great condition or not), there is football, baseball, soft ball, cricket, marshall arts cla**es, Capoeira, Tennis. Then there are books to read (Library), homework and house chores to be done. clean the yard, wash the dishes, wash their own clothes etc, etc.

Let them keep busy with such activites instead of hanging on the streets talking crap in their, so called, English that we no longer can understand. Most of them hanging out on the streets cannot properly speak, read or write ANY language.

So if you want to hang on the streets, you must be willing to take what the streets have to offer. They should have given them some blows also.

"Breaking Wind" that comment made no sense at all. Did SWW give birth to them?? Is she living with them??, Is she raising them??. Is she the PM of French SXM?? Does she even live on the French side??. You all have got to stop making everything political.

Teach your children respect, instead of teaching them that the politicians and police are the root to their demise. Parents are the ones destroying their children's future ... No one else is to blame, not the police/gendarmes, not SWW ... only their parents.

The youths of today have no respect for themselves so how they going to have any for anybody else.
The young people don't want to work, you would here them tell you they ain't working by the gas station because their friends will see them pumping gas, or the sun too hot. it to early to get up in the morning. They don't want to go school, don't want to do sports.

Gendarmes should have not only open Tear Gas on them. They should have also opened some shots and eliminated some of these young criminal gangsters.

@ happy -Gendarmes cannot and do not just shoot someone dead. They need to defending the loss of their own lives or their colleagues, or even a civilian, but to just shoot someone, no way. And it was not the case here.

@Gang control made a great point.. Gangs thugs don't care about the color of their skin. My relative was held up at gunpoint and robbed by his own cousin in broad daylight in centre of Marigot. There may have been gendarmes raised in predominantly white neighborhoods in France, but have you been to France lately? Multiculturalism is everywhere, an gendarmes have definitely moved with the times. I am also thankful they care enough and are not prepared to give into these feral animal who were drug up by bad parents.
