Marigot:--- A group of youngsters stoned some Gendarmes in French Quarter early Sunday morning when they arrested two teenagers. Residents in French Quarter said that the Gendarmes are targeting a 15- year old boy who was accused of raping a student of the College in French Quarter. The residents said that the matter was taken to court and the boy was found to be innocent of the crime he was accused of but they alleged that the young man is still being targeted by certain gendarmes. "On Sunday morning, the Gendarmes saw the young man and they began abusing him before they finally arrested him along with another person and took them to La Savanne. An angry crowd of youngsters in French Quarter stoned the Gendarmes while they were trying to arrest the two youths." According to one resident, the Gendarmes reacted by spraying tear gas on the crowd before driving away with the two suspects.
The Gendarmes did not release any information on the arrest of the two young men on Sunday.
In an unrelated incident, a 17-year-old individual was arrested as one of a group of persons causing a disturbance last Saturday night which led to a Gendarmerie vehicle being damaged.
A patrol was called out to Grand Case to respond to complaints of noise from motorbikes revving their engines and racing through Rue des Ecoles. On arrival, the patrol was confronted by a group of youths who proceeded to pelt their vehicle with stones causing damage to the bodywork. However, the Gendarmes identified one of the ringleaders and were able to arrest the suspect as he was trying to escape through the alleys.
The suspect will be summoned to the juvenile court to answer charges.
