GREAT BAY (DCOMM):--- Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports Hon. Silveria Jacobs, addressed the St. Maarten Academy Class of 2013, on Friday November 2nd, in a session at the Carl and Sons Conference Room.

The eager and attentive students were encouraged to surround themselves with positive people who would help to build them up. Form Five students were told to Dream Big, Plan meticulously and Act diligently on their plans.

Students were urged to believe in themselves and their responsibility for their success by "Evaluating every step of the way and re-adjusting your plan if necessary while always believing in yourself."

In her inspirational message Minister Jacobs reminded the Form Five students that they should find time for fun and do the things they loved each day so as to enjoy the process towards achieving their goals.

In closing students were advised to take heed and to expect and accept the pitfalls, and to use them as lessons to become even stronger.

"When you fall down, get up, dust off and figure out what went wrong. Then make sure to take the steps to never repeat that same mistake again."

And more bladiebla....Why not a 100 million dollar plan to invest in education and sports? Not saying that you need to spend that kind of money, but the time has come to stop talking and come with some constructive long term beneficial education and sports programs...

I'm commenting on what the guest said about pumping more money in our education program. Thats not always whats needed. In our case, our Minister of education should set her priority straight to avoid pitfalls which she should be aware of anyway,- that when an effort to teach can be encountered with resistance on the part of the students. It does not mean that the students are not intelligent, it means that the inspirational message is not biting. Most students who learn all the materials to past the graduation exams of any high school in st.Maarten must be prepared to pa** the college entrance exams of Canada, USA, Holland, and CURACA-ARUBA as well. My teaching style as a Minister of Education is to emphasize learning habits, rather than pumping materials which the students don't find interesting.

As long students are lacking material, schools need repairs, teachers have problems receiving their COLA, our sports facilities are in a deplorable condition and there are no serious programs to develop talent: money is needed....

    Talk is cheap.
