Philipsburg:--- On Friday March 22nd, 2013 around 10:00am, the new fire-arm for the Ministry of Justice that was advised by the Committee for New Police Weapons (CNV) in which Commissioner of Police Mr. Carl John represents the police for of St. Maarten was presented to the Minister of Justice. The Chief Commissioner of Police Mr. Peter De Witte was also present in a small ceremony that officially handed over the new police fire arms to the honorable Minister of Justice Mr. Roland Duncan.
The Police IBT instructor Mr. Hans Huijting is presently giving lessons of the new weapons to the fire-arms instructors from the police and prison.
The new fire-arms which are from an Italian made company are the Berretta model PX4 Storm that is a semi automatic caliber 9mm handgun. This weapon also carries more ammunition that the existing police fire-arm that is presently being used.
The honorable Minister gave his blessings and is looking forward to seeing these new weapons on the hips of the officers within his ministry in a very short time.
After this introduction and short ceremony, the IBT instructor Mr. Huijtings took the other instructors to the shooting range.
