One Arrested in young boy's death --- Body confiscated for further forensic examination.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Police arrested a male suspect as they continue the investigation into the death of a two year old boy who died at the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) on Wednesday. Prosecutor Tineke Kamps confirmed the arrest of the male suspect but declined to say whether or not the suspect is related to the victim. Kamps said police confiscated the body of the victim for further forensic investigation. SMN News understands that police invited the last person that was with the child prior to him being taken to SMMC for treatment. The source said when police began questioning the suspect his statements were somewhat strange, prompting police to place him under arrest. Police said that the death of the young boy is rather suspicious and investigators have to do everything to ensure that a crime was not committed.
SMN News learnt that the young boy was taken to SMMC in critical condition to see a pediatrician and when the doctor noticed something strange he alerted police. The child died while having treatment at SMMC. SMN News further understands that the suspect that was arrested on Wednesday evening is a good friend of the child's mother.
On Thursday the mother of the child contacted SMN News and said that her son died from a seizure and that he was not raped. The mother said that her son had severe diaper rash and that is why the doctor alerted police.
