WICSU/PSU Presidential Candidate pleas with members to have patience

dconnor09032015"I know the past three years were rocky, I intend to change that in the interest of workers"

PHILIPSBURG:--- The presidential candidate for the Windward Islands Civil Servants and Private Sector Union (WICSU/PSU) Denisio Conner has issued a strong call to all members of the WICSU/PSU to have some patience with the union as they are about to hold general elections on Friday May 29th. Conner a member of the WICSU/PSU for the past 18 years said he has been a member of the GOA for the past 10 years and he has what it takes to rebuild the credibility of the WICSU/PSU and to also represent and defend the rights of all civil servants as well as the members in the private sector. He said those members whose Collective Labor Agreement (CLA) that are currently under discussion should stay put because if they leave the WICSU/PSU now then the new union would have to start the process all over again. Conner admitted that the outgoing president did not represent the members of WICSU/PSU but instead squandered the union's monies. He said that the justice system will have to deal with that person but having the right person as president of the WICSU/PSU will rebuild the union's credibility.
Conner also made clear that he does not have any political ties or titles and believes that he could stand before any politician (Minister) to properly defend all civil servants. "The other candidate that has postulated herself to take up the presidency has postulated herself more than once on a political slate, she was the deputy Minister of plenipotentiary and one of the things the WICSU/PSU members have to be cognizant about is that this person does not have experience in unionism and she definitely cannot stand up to the politicians that was on the same political slate with her during the last two elections. "Should that political party get into power right now that person will look for a political appointment and will abandon the union therefore all members that will be voting this Friday should keep that in mind."
As for the members on the Saba and Statia (RCN) members he assured them that he will be present to negotiate with the Dutch whenever he has to do so. "I am appealing to the RCN members to ensure that they stick with someone that does not have political ties and one that can fully represent them whenever that time comes around. I am someone that has the experience and has credibility, I will not make any empty promises to the members of WICSU/PSU but one thing I can assure every member is that I intend to work hard to represent and defend the rights of the workers. Therefore, I am calling on all members of the WICSU/PSU to come out this Friday and vote for a strong president. Choose a president with experience, dignity to represent and defend your interest."
