PHILIPSBURG:--- Last Friday, Environmental Protection in the Caribbean (EPIC) Foundation, showed their restoration work to staff members of Ministry of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Development and Infrastructure (VROMI) and discussed the need to protect St. Maarten’s remaining green areas.
Since the passing of Hurricane Irma, EPIC has been busy with the restoration of three areas of St. Maarten. The sites, located at Cay Bay, Sentry Hill and Little Key (in the Simpson Bay Lagoon), are characteristically different and environmentally important. While viewing the three restoration sites, EPIC and VROMI discussed the importance of formally protecting these areas as they support unique ecological functions which are essential to maintaining our healthy environment.
