PHILIPSBURG:--- On Tuesday, May 22nd, the Sint Maarten South Leo Club proudly presented 3 laptops to the Sister Marie Laurence school, with the help of Dan Hayes.
When visuals of the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma hit the Internet, Dan Hayes took immediate action. Hayes, who is a teacher and resident of New York, with family ties in Sint Maarten, immediately set up a GoFundMe Page to raise funds for those in need on the island.
After some weeks of raising funds amongst his friends and family in the United States, Hayes got in contact with the Sint Maarten South Leo Club in order to ensure that the funds raised went towards an educational project on the island.
After allowing some months to pass, to do a proper assessment of the school damages, the Sint Maarten South Leo Club chose to purchase laptops for the Sister Marie Laurence School, in Middle Region. The Sister Marie Laurence school suffered, by far, the most hurricane damage and worse damage due to looting. The laptops will provide an innovative environment for the students for
e-learning.
