Loyal supporters of the original Grassroots Movement.

Partnership between the St. Martin Grassroots people Movement and SMECO-2014 a logical alternative

Dear loyal supporters,

For a while now, we have been approached by many of you because of you feeling confused by a group of individuals, identifying themselves as the Soualiga grassroots movement, or as THE grassroots movement.
The reason, you tell us why you are confused, is because the original- and only grassroots movement, most people knew from 'day one', is the St. Martin Grassroots People Movement.
This movement is officially registered- and established on both sides of the island.
Many of you express having the feeling, that this group of persons, is deliberately trying to confuse the St. Martin people.
In addition, a number of you, is very concerned about our future, because you feel that there is a conspiracy to undermine and to deny our very existence as the original grassroots people movement.
While we understand your sentiments, we inform you, that we too are very well aware of what this group is up to.
In fact – the objective is in keeping with a threat Mr. Horace Whit - the leader of this group - made back then, during a meeting.
He stated clearly, that he would (quote); 'Cut off our original movement at its knees'.
As a matter of fact - when he joined our original movement, we were fore-warned by others who worked with him in the past, that he has a track-record of infiltrating organizations, only to destroy them, if he could not be in control.
We nevertheless gave the gentleman the benefit of the doubt.
The rest is history – the good gentleman confirmed his reputation- and track-record.
He committed a 'coup' behind the back of the founders of the movement - then tried to even steal the name - and when that did not work, he choose a name almost identical to that of the original movement.
Clearly, it was his mission from day one to destroy the original grassroots movement – all based on envy and worse.
For the record.
We respect the rights of anyone to break away from any organization to set up their own – nothing wrong with that.
But, when one deliberately tries to steal the name of the organization they joined, and when that does not work, to then choose a similar name, that the motive becomes questionable.
Why didn't Horace Whit choose another name for his 'new' group.
How about SMECO-2014, or SMECO- movement, or SMECO-North &South, or SMECO-Anti Colonialism – after all, they always talk about having 'invented' SMECO and about the great work SMECO did – which we absolutely agree with and give them all the credit for.
If they had done that, not only would they have created a REAL alternative and clear distinction without confusion for the people, they claim they love – it would have made so much logical- and moral sense
In addition, it would have allowed for us both to find common ground to work on in the best interest of St. Martin people.
For sure then, sowing confusion, could hardly have been the motive to show love - and the way to set an example for St. Martin people and politicians, whom are often attack for lacking morals.
Dear loyal supporters of the original St. Martin Grassroots People Movement now, that you know this - please put aside all you concerns, because anything that is built on betrayal and deception will be eventually exposed and more.
It should also be known, that we do not harbor any ill will towards the members of the Soualiga group – what they are doing is courageous and necessary.
BUT, whenever anyone tries to 're-create' and to 're-invent' history by denying what others did and how they (the Soualiga group) itself came into existence – we do not tolerate anyone doing that to us.
We paid too high a price for too long for that.
And for the record- we recommend you listen to the words of Ras Touzah Jabash, expressing how the plot of betrayal was committed.
In the meantime, the original St. Martin Grassroots People Movement, thanks all of you, the many people, natives and other residents for your support and we can assure you, that our movement will continue to set the tone for others to follow, as we have done for decades.
Lots more information to come.
One love.

Leopold James
President and founder of the
St. Martin Grassroots People Movement.
