Marigot:--- A lone courier who was about to transport Euros 20,000.00 from the Change Point in French Quarter (Change Quarter) was robbed shortly after 9am on Tuesday morning. SMN News learnt that the courier was about to leave the business place on a motorcycle taking the large sum of monies with him in a back-pack when he was attacked by two masked men at gun point. SMN News learnt that the courier was supposed to take the monies to deposit at a bank in Marigot.
An eyewitness to the early morning robbery said the robbers were inside a car bearing French number plates. The eyewitness who preferred to remain anonymous said that the bandits knocked the courier to the ground as he was about to get on his motorcycle. After committing the attack the two gunmen escaped towards the border leading up to the Belvedere area. No details on the color and make of the escape vehicle were provided.
The armed robbery occurred outside of the establishment leaving the lone female employee inside in shock and despair.
The employee told SMN News that the incident occurred outside and she did not see what happened. She said Change Quarter has cameras inside the building but not outside.
Change Quarter has been operating in French Quarter for about two years now. The owner of the money exchange business also owns a Change Point in Marigot. Despite the armed robbery, the business place remained open on Tuesday and conducted business as usual.
Commandant of the Gendarmerie Paul Betaille confirmed the armed robbery occurred early Tuesday morning in French Quarter but refused to divulge any information on the ongoing investigation which he said is conducted by the Bridgade de Recherche.
