Daily Herald Editor in Chief Succumbed to Illness Sunday Night in Tampa Florida.

courtneygibson03062013Philipsburg:--- Media workers are in shock, some were at a loss for words on Monday morning when they learned that their colleague and friend Courtney Gibson passed away. Gibson was 62 at the time of his death.

Gibson, a veteran journalist, was working as the Editor in Chief for the Daily Herald Newspaper for quite some years now. Those who knew "Courtney" could tell that he was one journalist that believed in integrity and ethics when it came to reporting news. While Courtney was a friendly, kind, and staunch Christian, he maintained his professionalism as a journalist even when he was placed in situations where he had to stand strong on his beliefs.
Gibson worked as the Bureau Chief for the Caribbean News Agency now known as the Caribbean Media Corporation in his native country Guyana. He was also the Editor in Chief for the Guyana Chronicle for a number of years. Gibson also worked in the Turks and Caicos Islands prior to taking up his position at the Daily Herald in St. Maarten.

Courtney Gibson was the President of the Guyanese Foundation on St. Maarten, he was also a member of the Anti Trafficking in Persons of the Windward Islands Foundation (ATIP).

Courtney Gibson took ill some months ago with a rare medical condition; he sought medical treatment in St. Maarten, Guadeloupe, and Colombia. Some two weeks ago Gibson left the island to continue his medical treatment in Tampa Florida where he passed away late Sunday night.

Courtney leaves to mourn his wife Liz, his mother, three children, four grandchildren, his close friend Neville Mars and the members of the Anglican Church on Back Street Philipsburg. SMN News team wishes the family of late Courtney Gibson much strength in their time of bereavement.
