SER hosts symposium on “Corporate Social Responsibility”.

The Social Economic Council (SER) of Sint Maarten will host its first annual symposium on Wednesday morning, June 12 at the Westin Dawn Beach Spa & Resort. The theme of the symposium will be "Innovate or deteriorate; Corporate Social Responsibility as the Way Forward for Sint Maarten". The event will start at 8 am and will be concluded at 1 pm.
The SER is proud to present Professor Ryan Peterson as the keynote speaker of the conference. Professor Peterson's field of specialization is Innovation Economics. He holds the 'Economics Research Chair on Sustainable Islands' at the University of Aruba.
A panel discussion with representatives of the public and private sectors and the SER itself will further explore the central theme of innovation through 'Corporate Social Responsibility', addressing the question of the best way for businesses to be involved in, and accept responsibility for, the social challenges of our country.
Corporate social responsibility or 'CSR' nowadays is a widely discussed topic in the Caribbean and worldwide. Private enterprises can show corporate social responsibility at different levels; by donating money to charities, by stressing compliance with rules and regulations, or by being pro-actively involved in education, social causes, care for the environment and other long-term social goals.

Organization of the symposium is covered by Dutch development funds managed by USONA.
