La Savane:--- Coconut Trees Go-Karting in La Savane went up in flames just before midday on Monday. A firefighter that was trying to bring the blaze under control was seriously burnt and is currently hospitalized. Business owners and workers in the area said they are suspicious of the fire because the business was not operational at the time the fire started.
They said that the owner of the Coconut Trees Go-Karting invested almost three million Euros when he bought the land and built the business but business was very slow for him. The business was no longer opening all day, they were opening based on appointments because of how slow it is on the French side. "This businessman tried to do something good but he could not make it because of the high taxes on the French side. He was faced with high utility bills and other expenses to open all day. One of his employees that were living on the property is now homeless but luckily he was not on the premises when the fire started."
They said that cars that were parked in the area were damaged while the building and 35 go-karts were completely destroyed. However, the track stayed intact.
Just in front of the Coconut Trees Go-Karting where the fire took place on Monday is the Gess Service Station that did not suffer any damages.
The Gendarmerie is said to be conducting an investigation to determine whether or not the fire at Coconut Trees Go-Karting was criminal or accidental.
