sundialschoolinteractclub23092013PHILIPSBURG:--- The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise is pleased to announce the formation, of an Interact Club at the Sundial School. The club will hold its official elections on September 24, 2013 at the schools grounds. The positions that the students have postulated themselves for are: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary amongst other available positions. The students had the honor of meeting with District Governor Mr. Jeremy Hurst, who is presently on island to meet with all Rotary clubs, Rotaract and Interact clubs. DG Jeremy stated to the enthusiastic group that "Interact Clubs give young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects, all the while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends. Each year, Interact Clubs complete at least one community service project and at least one project that further international understanding and goodwill. Interact Clubs are sponsored by Rotary clubs who provide guidance and inspiration, but the Interact Clubs are self-governing and self-supporting".
Jacqueline Morris, graciously volunteered as the faculty advisor for the club along with Mr. Frans, while Paula Gordon, New Generation chair for Rotary Sunrise is the Interact Liaison.
Interact is Rotary International service club for high school students. Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary Club Members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.
Paula Gordon stated that "these students have a unique opportunity to not only participate in a meaningful service club, but to actually be the founders of this club! Although the club is in its infancy, the advisors and students will be working together to adopt bylaws and organize meeting formats".
