Tax Department encouraging use of online tax filing.

taxdepartmentpresentationondigitaltaxfiling04102013PHILIPSBURG (DCOMM):--- The office of the Tax Department has been upgrading different tax systems--from digitizing tax filing to requesting a tax id or protesting an assessment, for the past months, with the assistance of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Department of Government.

With the effort to digitalize, the aim of the Tax Department is to facilitate persons, tax consultants, or companies to file their taxes online, which would be beneficial to both entities, from lowering paper usage to efficient use of human resources and technology to less mistake and immediate calculations, hence less cost to tax payers themselves.

Therefore, the Tax Department would like everyone, in essence, to file their taxes on-line through the Government's website at https://onlineservices.sintmaartengov.org and provide their feedback.

Currently, tax declarations for Turnover tax and Wage tax can be submitted through on-line filing. While Turnover tax, Wage tax forms and income tax filing can be downloaded. The ICT and Tax Departments are working diligently to include other forms and payment possibilities, such as AOV. Thus in the near future, more forms will be available for download. New functionality soon expected to be made available are:

  • Payments Online
  • Wage tax summary processing
  • Profit tax forms downloadable
  • Income taxes Online (early 2014)

In light of this upgrade, the Tax Department along with Government's ICT department invited companies, consultants, and advisors involved in tax filing for companies or individuals to view their presentation on digital tax filing. Jean James, project manager at ICT department, went through the entire online application of taxes process, from begin to end, pointing out the procedures and the technicalities. Some of the participants asked questions about authorization, including other forms, benefits to themselves, amongst other integrating with SVZ and having online payments.

Not only to view, but these attendees were asked to give their input and feedback about the functioning of the digital tax filing system which is in soft launch. With this input, the ICT Department along with the Tax Department, will work on perfecting the filing system. As of next week a marketing campaign of this and other digital services will start.

In addition, the public who file their taxes is asked to go online and review how the tax online system works. If there are any comments or questions please send it to the Tax department. In addition, if there are any issues during the processing call or email Tax Department or the Public Service Center (PSC) at 545-3380.

The Tax Department will continue to hold these tax-filing sessions and urge those tax consultants or advisors, to come and see the presentation, but also give feedback so that the system can be improved.
