TelEm Group service interruptions in Cole Bay and Simpson Bay, Thursday night.

POND ISLAND:--- TelEm Group and overseas vendor, BTI, will be carrying out critical capacity expansion of the company's fibre core between the hours of 10:00pm Thursday night into the early hours of 5:00am, Friday morning.
The work will be carried out on the TelEm Group Gig-E fibre core remotely by the overseas vendor, BTI, with TelEm Group engineers and technicians providing support.
Project coordinator, and TelEm Group Network Engineer, Jed Carty, says the network expansion will directly affect company equipment in Cole Bay and Simpson Bay and is necessary to provide expanded capacity to customers in these areas.
He said as a result of the network expansion during the hours of 10:00 pm Thursday and 5:00am Friday morning, there will be no 3G mobile service to: Sapphire, PJIAE, La Plage, Fort Willem, Porto Cupecoy, Medical University, Simpson Bay Bridge, and Simpson Bay Exchange.

Also affected will be customers in the area who are connected to the TelEm Group network via fibre, including: Windward Island Bank branch offices in Cole Bay and Simpson Bay, AUC, Blue Mall, Porto Cupecoy and other services the Lowlands area.
"The expansion of the Gig-E network core will create more capacity for our current and future customers and is something that must be done right away," said Mr. Carty.
He said at one stage it was feared all services, including voice and data would also have to be interrupted to accommodate Thursday's maintenance window, however, an alternative was found in which these services could be maintained throughout the operation.
On behalf of management of TelEm Group Mr. Carty has apologized in advance to customers for the interruption in 3G service expected to take place.
