PHILIPSBURG:--- Local entrepreneur, Terrance Rey, nominates taxi drivers for a Crystal Pineapple Award. Taxi drivers are a vital component for the tourism industry and it is about time that the taxi drivers are recognized for the important work they do in this sector of our island's economy.
"As it is difficult to nominate each and every taxi driver, I propose we nominate the presidents of each taxi association to represent their respective members," says Terrance Rey. "You have Mr. Otis Hughes of the Dutch St. Maarten Taxi Association; Mr. Jean Samuel of the St. Maarten Airport Taxi Association and Mr. Nathaniel Wyatt of Genesis Taxi Association."
"I personally, would nominate Mr. Rigobert 'Bert' Gumbs of Taxi 267 for his tireless dedication, professionalism and courteousness towards our customers," Rey explained. "When I book a taxi tour with Mr. Gumbs, I can simply walk away and entrust my clients to his care."
Rey continues: "His reliability and dependability over the years has proven to be a critical success element in servicing our clients in this industry."
As an example of the kind of reliability he is talking about, Rey explains: "I remember in 2010, we had a meeting with a group and when the meeting ended, a rain poured down trapping us in the building where the meeting was held. The intention was to walk back to our respective offices. I called Bert and within minutes a taxi van showed up at the door."
Rey concludes: "In my opinion, that is the kind of service that definitely deserves a Crystal Pineapple Award."
