CAY HILL:--- On Wednesday October 23rd the Cay Hill Community Council (CHCC) and Soualiga Social Movement (SSM) met to discuss youth employment in the Cay Hill area at the Asha Stevens Hillside Christian School in Cay Hill, also present at the meeting was CPO Henson. Earlier in the year, SSM and a large group of young men and women in Cay Hill were instrumental in the realization of the CHCC and the main concern of these young men and women was the employment of youngsters from their neighborhood.
A basic plan was proposed by SSM to have separated garbage (plastic, metals, paper, glass, etc.) collected at hotels and other (large) businesses for recycling purposes and to have some young men and women from Cay Hill employed to execute this task. The CHCC proposed to include an awareness program on the environment in the plan. Financing and sustainability of the plan were also discussed.
Other topics related to youth employment and employment in general that were discussed were: the available information on government programs for labor and community development in general, communication of youths with authorities and authority figures, the lack of personal documents and the illegal status of some youths, communication among NGO's and cooperation of NGO's in general.
Both foundations expressed their satisfaction of the meeting and are looking forward to a fruitful working relationship. CPO Henson, once again, stated that any endeavor to improve Cay Hill has his full support and that he is only a phone call away. The president of the CHCC closed the meeting with the words:" Let's not forget that it is not about us. It is all about the youths."
