The guardship of the Royal Netherlands Navy in the Caribbean, Zr. Ms. Amsterdam, is on a roll. In one week, the crew of the supply vessel stopped two drug shipments where a total of 1,200 kilograms of cocaine were revved from the vessels.
Maritime helicopter NH90
In the first case the illegal shipment was en route from Colombia to the North. After the discovery of a quick go-fast, immediately the maritime helicopter NH90 was deployed from the ship. The speedboat was forced to stop. The members of the Law Enforcement Detachment (LEDET) of the U.S. Coast Guard, who are a part of the crew of Zr.Ms. Amsterdam, arrested four persons on suspicion of illegal drug trafficking.
After searching the boat it showed that the go-fast was loaded with 600 kilograms of cocaine.
Escape at high speed
In the second case a suspicious speedboat departed at high speed from Venezuela to the North. Zr.Ms. Amsterdam headed out to intercept the go-fast in the dark. They were able to approach the go-fast within the mile, before the crew of the speedboat knew they were being followed. When they realized they were being observed, they took off with high speed while the crew tried to throw its contraband overboard. The go-fast boat escaped, but the crew of the Amsterdam removed from the water 19 bales of cocaine weighing 600 pounds.
October
In late October the Zr.Ms. Amsterdam also had a successful interception of a go-fast headed toward the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The NH90 managed to bring four passengers who were taken into custody. On board the vessel they found 1450 kg of cocaine.
