L.B. SCOTT ROAD:--- On Thursday January 16th, 2014 the Community Police Officer (CPO) for the Sint Peters and Reward districts was called to the Sint Maarten Academy to investigate a situation involving a weapon. On the scene the officer was informed by the management of the school that they had received information that a student was carrying something illegal in his school bag and wanted the police to be present when his bag was searched. During the search of the school bag of the student in question a replica of a Glock pistol was found. It would be quite difficult to tell the difference between this replica and a real pistol. The replica does not fire real ammunition but instead it shoots pellets. These pellets cannot not penetrate the skin easily, but the impact would be quite painful. If a pellet shot from this pistol catches someone in their eye, the victim stands a great chance of losing that eye. This replica pistol can be used as a weapon to threaten someone and scare them. The weapon was confiscated immediately and the 18 year old suspect/student was arrested and taken to the Philipsburg Police Station where he remains in custody for further investigation.
