NBA Basketball Clinic for Children.

amarijohnson14022014PHILIPSBURG:--- The St. Maarten Tourist Bureau is once again teaming up with basketball stars to host an NBA basketball clinic.

Amari Johnson of the Toronto Raptors and Quincy Acy of the Sacramento Kings will host an NBA basketball clinic taking place on Friday, February 14, 2014 at 4:00 pm at the LB Scott Auditorium in Philipsburg. The athletes are currently in St. Maarten enjoying their vacation and have agreed to set aside some time to work with children on the island.

The event is free of charge and offers children the opportunity to learn the skills of the sport and tricks of the trade from professional players. The clinic is also an active outlet for the youth that provides not only skill training but personal relationship building.

When contacted, Minister Thadeus Richardson said that "this initiative is the perfect show of Corporate and Individual Social Responsibility from our visitors to have for St. Maarten." The Minister is very thankful to Amari and Quincy for their acceptance and encourage others to do the same.

"Everyone needs to benefit from Tourism on our island. This is one way the children, our future, can also benefit from this basketball clinic. We like to thank the players for taking time out of their vacation to work with us. A big thank you to Manny and Alex of Tantra Sactuary and the L.B. Sports Auditorium in assisting with this project" said Interim Director of Tourism, Edward Dest.

Amari Johnson was drafted straight out of Westchester High School in Los Angeles by the Detroit Pistons in the 2005 NBA Draft.
Quincy Acy is a graduate of Baylor University and was drafted in the second round by the Toronto Raptors and currently plays for the Sacramento Kings.
