PM Stresses Importance of Using Young, Local Role Models in Building Country
PHILIPSBURG:--- The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams was joined by the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports the Honorable Patricia Lourens-Phillip and representatives of the TELEM group of companies in launching TELEM's youth empowerment campaign where numerous billboards emphasizing the positive role the youth can play in the community at the Asha Stevens Campus of the Christian Hillside School. The Prime Minister thanked TELEM CFO Helma Etnel and CCO Brian Mingo in pushing for such a positive project: "I know that this initiative has been worked on for a very long time. TELEM has been working steadfast in various positive empowerment projects for the youth and the schools, including ensuring internet for the schools and other amenities and at the same time promoting positive messages at the schools. I am also very grateful to the Minister of Education for finalizing this and launch this project. The messages are important as well as TELEM's positive message especially using our local young role models. When our young people look at these boards they see their own peers. I think this is a very 'cool' idea and I the messages which are being brought forth in the community. I congratulate all in pushing for the positive development of the island," commented Prime Minister Wescot-Williams.
