POND ISLAND:--- TelEm Group residential and business customers on one section of Backstreet can expect better telephone connections and less static on telephone lines following replacement of a faulty underground cable Friday.
TelEm Group technicians will be out from 6:00 am in the morning, Friday, removing an outdated and damaged cable and replacing it with better-shielded cables. The work will take place in the area of Old Street Mall to the Sintac Building on the corner of Backstreet and Voges Street.
According to TelEm Group Outside Plant Manager, Mr. Marco London, the work is scheduled for completion a little after 11:00 am on the same day.
"During the time of the work customers in and around the area mentioned above can expect interruptions in voice and data services," said Mr. London.
He said once completed, customers in the vicinity can expect better service, less outages, and disappearance of noise on the line which has been a complaint of a number of businesses in the area.
"The combination of damage to the cable some time ago when Voges Street was being upgraded and a general deterioration of other parts of the cable made it a priority for us to carry out this cable upgrade right away," explained the outside plant manager.
TelEm Group has meantime apologized to customers who may be affected by the cable replacement works for any inconvenience caused.
