ZAGERSGUT/BUSH ROAD:--- "I am very humbled and honored to be able to participate in the 2014 election with the One St. Maarten People Party, says Mr. Denissen Philips. For many years I have been behind the scene of many politicians assisting them in many ways to be elected.
My country has given a me good education and along with the many years of experience I have gathered over the years it would be very ungrateful for me to not to put these in the service of my beloved country
To me it is not acceptable to merely standby and allows the parliament of our country to be the laughing stock of the region while I could make a difference. More people are suffering now than ever before and with little care being shown by those in political office our people need all capable persons in the right positions. The cost of living on St. Maarten based on a recent study is much higher than many of the surrounding islands and in particular higher than Aruba and Curacao but yet our politicians don't seem to care. Over the last four years without any exception they have given more lip service than any time before and that is also evident in the absenteeism records in the parliament of St. Maarten.
The rate of unemployment, especially amongst the young people between the ages of 18 to 28 have increased drastically without any indication that it will get better any time soon.
The vision of this party is to invest in our human capital and ease up somewhat on our investment in concrete. We must focus on bringing home our graduating students and assist them in joining our labour market. These students are the future and we must treat them as such, just saying it is not enough. We expect to be part of the next government and during our watch we expect to sign agreements with many of the municipalities in the Netherlands and the various States in the USA. These agreements would allow our students to acquire the necessary experience after completing their studies and return home well equipped with a good education and the necessary experience. We will also work hard in involving our graduating students with the necessary experience to be able to participate in the technical assistance program, it was done before and we will introduce it again.
This brings me to a very important point, the community development of a nation. No nation can prosper and move forward if its' people are not part of the growth. It must start within the communities. We must bring back baseball teams from within the communities; steel pan from within the communities; jobs creation within the communities. It is only the communities that can take this country to the next level. We will therefore want to congratulate our police force with the community officers and a special congratulation to all those officers who were promoted to Inspectors for a job well done over the years. The communities of Cay Bay, Cole Bay and their surroundings we want to encourage you to make use of the newly established police sub-station in your neighborhood. And as the youth rap song says, don't ask me, I don't know but together we can solve it, all hands on board.
Together we will make St. Maarten S.H.I.N.E. A Change Must Come.
