PHILIPSBURG:--- The driver of BUS-220 and one of his passengers are now at the St. Maarten Medical Center for injuries they sustained during a traffic accident on the Pondfill Road.
Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson said in an invited comment that the driver of BUS-220 was coming through the street next to NV GEBE to go onto the Pondfill Road when he drove in front of a speeding fire truck that was responding to a fire somewhere over the bank. Henson said the bus driver felt he could have made it over to the other lane before the fire truck caught up to him. Henson said due to the poor judgment of the bus driver, the fire truck hit the bus head on, leaving the driver of the bus trapped in his vehicle and one of his passengers injured. The police spokesman said another fire truck had to be dispatched to free the injured driver while the first truck continued on its mission to put out a bush fire they attended to earlier in the day.
