St. Maarten Academy Launches C.A.P.E. Programme.

CUL DE SAC:--- The Foundation for Academic and Vocational Education (FAVE) will this year launch its Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (C.A.P.E.) programme through the academic section of St. Maarten Academy.
The programme is slated to begin on September 8, 2014 and will facilitate students who have been successful at six or more subjects in their Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination and wish to further their studies at the pre-university level.
The St. Maarten Academy is the first school on the island to introduce this programme of study. The FAVE board said it believes that it would be a great offering to the population of St. Maarten as the programme seeks to offer an Associate Degree in three areas: Natural Sciences, Business Studies, and General Studies.
CAPE offers a wide range of opportunities to students as they prepare for entry into any degree programme at the university level. Firstly, it provides students with options for exemption from specific courses at certain universities. Secondly, it allows students to access higher education without having to leave the island, which makes it cost effective for both parents and the government.
Academy principal, drs. Tallulah Baly-Vanterpool says CAPE is an "excellent opportunity to offer students of St. Maarten an Associate Degree in an area of specialization as this course of study will stand them in better staid to matriculate into universities." According to her, "the award of a degree would offer students who wish to enter the workforce earlier a competitive edge."
St. Maarten Academy emerged in 1974 as the first secondary school with English as the language of instruction. The school prides itself on being forerunners as now it will be offering an Associate Degree through the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC).
