PHILIPSBURG:--- After visiting the St. Martin's Home the last Sunday of each month for the past decade to pamper elderly clients, St. Maarten Tzu Chi Foundation will now be visiting the home during the week to enable young volunteers to participate.
As of this month Tzu Chi volunteers will be visiting the St. Martin's Home the last Friday of each month. The monthly visit will be held for one hour from 10:00am to 11:00am.
The change in the date will facilitate pupils from All Children's Education Foundation (ACE) elementary and the pilot humanitarian kindergarten section to alternate visits to the home once monthly as part of the institution's efforts to teach pupils the importance of giving back to the community and honouring seniors.
The public can join the foundation on the monthly visits.
During the visits volunteers and pupils will pamper the elderly clients by giving them gentle massages; exercise with them, polish their nails and spend quality time talking to them and occasionally even performing for them.
The visit is part of Tzu Chi's goal to pay homage to those who have already given of themselves to the community in their younger years.
In addition to the monthly visits the last Friday of each month, Tzu Chi will continue its visits on special occasions such as on Mother's Day and Father's Day to give gifts to the seniors in the Home. Volunteers also visit the Home on New Year's Day and deliver gifts and host an entertaining programme for the seniors.
