DUTCH QUARTER:--- Relatives of murder victim Lizcania Maduro (Liz) also known as Beba Brumant whose body was found in her car trunk on Tuesday September 2nd, 2014 said that the police and the Public Prosecutor's Office should be held accountable for the murder of their family member. The relatives said that "Beba" went to the police several times begging for help and for the law to act because her former boyfriend was threatening her life and she was fearful that this person would end her life because he has a criminal record. The family who spoke to SMN News along with several friends also expressed their anger on Facebook when they read the police press release asking the community of St. Maarten to contact them through their tip line if they know who might have murdered the former Great Bay Sonesta bartender.
"Many times Liz went to report the man she was with and broke off from because he was threatening her life and instead of taking her report or doing something about it the police would look at her and laugh, one of them even told her if she is afraid for her safety she should check in at Safe Haven."
When SMN News asked the Public Prosecutor's Office (Maarten Noodzji and Chief Prosecutor Eric Noordhoek) if they are aware that the now dead woman went to police for help to file an official complaint several times, prosecutor Maarten Noordzji said that he could not comment on the case, he said all of that is part of the investigation and the case for him is very fresh. Noordhoek on the other hand said he did not know and he was with his family having fun when SMN News contacted him on Sunday.
However, that is not the views of several people on St. Maarten, a detective once told SMN News reporter that they have tons of cases and complaints that they want to investigate further and even arrest the perpetrators but the Prosecutor's Office does not cooperate with them. The detective said that the Prosecutor's Office and Solicitor General on St. Maarten Taco Stein are using shortage of manpower and lack of equipment's to their advantage. "KPSM is short of staff we admit that but the detectives working for KPSM are ready and willing to work to prevent crime on St. Maarten but for us to do that we have to get the cooperation of the Public Prosecutor's Office."
SMN News reporter filed several complaints with KPSM against someone that have been terrorizing the entire community through cyberspace but when KPSM requested an arrest warrant the prosecution found all sorts of excuses not to grant the police that warrant. The cases filed by SMN News and several other persons against the menace whom the prosecution claims is mental patient is just one of the many cases the Prosecutor's Office refused to address so far.
On August 25th, 2014 the judge in the Court of First Instance indicted the Prosecutor's Office in the Masbangu case for failure to do their work after four years. Detectives from KPSM said that the police internal affairs investigated that case and if the prosecution was not paid off or in bed with politicians they could have prosecuted that case one week after KPSM turned over their files to them, but it is clear that there are persons in the Prosecutor's Office on politicians payroll because it is impossible that they think using shortage of staff or equipment's will save their faces. So far the police have five murders they are busy investigating for the year 2014 and most likely the death of the toddler will soon become a murder investigation.
