MULLET BAY:--- The St. Maarten Golf Association SMGA donated USD 4,000 to the Junior Golf Association to assist the junior golf program in their goal to provide free golf to children from 7 to 17 years old.
The Junior Golf Association is celebrating their 10th year anniversary and due to major sponsors like the Royal and Ancient Golf Association, the world's oldest and largest golf association located in Scotland and of which St. Maarten is an affiliated country, Mullet Bay Golf course, the SMGA and Emilio Wilson Estate, they are able to continue and bring the beautiful game of golf to the attention of the St. Maarten / St. Martin youth.
The Junior Golf Association organizes several events during the year. There is the annual Junior Open in the beginning of June, special events during the year with the French side as well as several parent / child team tournaments to strengthen the role of family participation. This year St. Maarten was even represented by our top 12 year old golfer Pierre Garcia who competed in the world's largest youth competition, The Junior Open Championship which was held in England, with 137 children from 76 different countries.
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon children have the opportunity to enjoy professional golf lessons at Emilio Wilson Estate from certified teachers. Golf offers children important lessons in honesty, integrity, respect and the joy of competition, which can be at all levels of play.
