Funds raised during 18 hour pool playing marathon
PHILIPSBURG:--- President of Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise, Virginia Asin, received a donation from Norman Vidal, owner of Q Lounge for the purchase of Christmas gifts for orphans in our community.
Mr. Vidal, the owner of Q Lounge entered into a unique fundraising event last weekend playing 18 hours of pool non-stop. An open invitation was sent out to patrons to play against him during his initial quest to play for 18 hours straight or to place bets as to what time he would quit. Also all monies made during his attempt at the other pool tables in his establishment also went towards the donation. Mr. Vidal played over 100 games and his efforts raised $717.
Rotary Sunrise's Fundraising Director Prakash Dialani partnered with Mr. Vidal when he learned of his attempt to raise money for orphans by playing a pool marathon. He thought Rotary Club of St Martin Sunrise would be the perfect partner for this initiative as it would be a great contribution to Rotary Sunrise annual "Light Up Christmas" event.
The "Light Up Christmas" event brings the Christmas spirit to orphans living on St. Maarten by lighting and decorating a Christmas tree with them, singing Christmas carols, sharing a meal together and giving out gifts to the children. Rotary Sunrise members look forward to this event every year.
President Virginia presented Mr. Vidal with a certificate of appreciation for his donation to the community through the club and thanked him for the opportunity to partner with him and his business for a good cause. She expressed the hope that Q Lounge will become a permanent partner in the "Light Up Christmas" event.
The club meets at Carl & Sons Pondfill every Tuesday mornings at 7:00 am for fellowship and breakfast.
