rotarysxmsunrisexmaslightupican08122014PHILIPSBURG:--- Christmas came early for the children at the I Can Foundation residence. On Saturday, December 6th, the Rotary Club of St Martin Sunrise together with their Sundial Interact Club had their annual "Light Up Christmas" event at the I Can Foundation. President Virginia Asin, in her opening address thanked Cassandra "Mamma Debbie" Gibbs, for allowing the club to have their annual community event at her home with the children. "Although not everybody is a Christian", President Virginia said, "We all embrace this time of the year to share love and happiness with each other".

During the invocation Secretary Marcellia Henry thanked the Lord for the opportunity to be together in His name and asked to bless the food and the hands that had prepared the food. "With our Light Up Christmas event we want to light up the children's faces and light up the hearts of all in His name", she prayed.

President Virginia also thanked the organizing committee consisting of Committee Chairperson Joseanne Peterson, Damali Bryson, Agnes Kapoor, Okama Ekpe Brook, Valda Woodley Hazel and Ahmed Bell. A special thank you also went to Mr. Norman Vidal of the Q Lounge who was the sponsor for the gifts and brought yet another gift, a Karaoke set, with him for the children.

It was an afternoon filled with fun and games, and singing of Christmas carols. To stay in the tradition of home cooked Christmas dinner, Rotarians with their families prepared ham and turkey and lots of other goodies at their homes and brought it over to the house. After the fun and games, everyone gathered around to share the Christmas meal together.
The highlight of the day was a visit from Santa Claus who brought with him many gifts for the children of the foundation. One by one he spoke to them and encouraged them to do well in school and to get on the nice, and not the naughty list so that Santa can visit again next year. Each child also had the chance to take their individual picture with Santa.

At the end of the afternoon Mamma Debbie on behalf of her staff and the children, thanked Rotary Sunrise for choosing the I Can Foundation and wished everyone a prosperous 2015.
