Checkmate Security Assisted Police in Capturing House Robbers.

POINTE BLANCHE:--- A Checkmate security guard acted in good faith early Monday morning when he jumped into the open waters at the Harbor and captured a suspect whom residents and police were chasing after he and two others were caught breaking into a home in Pointe Blanche. A supervisor of Checkmate Security applauded the security guard who was on duty early Monday morning for his bravery. Shervin Williams told SMN News that he was apprised of the situation just before 9am on Monday morning. Williams said based on the information he received from the supervisor that was on duty at the St. Maarten Harbor Group of Companies, a young male was running from police and the suspect ran into the area of the "sandpit". "The guard who was fully dressed in his uniform tried stopping the suspect but he continued to run and then jumped into the water. Our security guard did not hesitate to jump in the same water and capture the suspect and brought him back ashore, pinned him down then handcuffed him and waited until officers from KPSM arrived on the scene and took over. I think the security guard did an outstanding job because he is paid to secure the harbor but this morning he did not only do that but also assisted the police in capturing a suspect."
Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson said in an invited comment that the residents of a home in Pointe Blanche caught three Hispanic speaking men breaking into their home red-handed early Monday morning. Henson said when the suspects realized they were caught they began running and the residents of the home started to chase them on foot. He said one of the suspects ran in the area of the sand-pit and a Checkmate security guard captured him and turned him over to the police. Henson said while the residents were chasing the suspects they called police who were on their way to the scene. Henson further explained that two of the three Spanish speaking men were apprehended and police is still busy looking for the third suspect.
