PHILIPSBURG:--- The 32 year old man identified as Miguelito Garcia who was stabbed on Sunday morning has died in Santo Domingo early on Tuesday due to his injuries, after a brawl on the Illidge road. Garcia who was well known in the Latin community sustained several injuries to his body during the fight according to eye witnesses. Press Prosecutor Karola Van Nie confirmed on Tuesday evening that the victim succummed to his injuries.
At 11.30 a.m on Sunday, police patrols were sent to the A. Th. Illidge road in the vicinity of A&A supply in connection with a big fight that was ongoing. On the scene the investigating officers learnt that a fight had taken place between two men in which knives were used.
Miguelito received several stab wounds to his body and had to be transported to the Medical Center to be immediately operated on. He was then transferred to Santo Domingo on Monday and died early Tuesday because he lost too much blood. The suspect in this case who was also stabbed in his shoulder received treatment at the St. Maarten Medical Center and was released according to the police however hours after the incident took place. He was arrested and placed under police custody. The spouse of the suspect who is presently pregnant also got caught up in this fight and was beaten by two other females. These two females were also arrested in connection with the case. Garcia lives in Cul de sac and is believed to have started the fight on Sunday.
