Jamaican car wash worker shot in Back Street. ---Motives not yet known. (UPDATED)

PHILIPSBURG:--- A Jamaican national was shot late Sunday night between Back Street and Cannegieter Street. SMN News learnt on Monday that the victim is currently in critical condition, while gun crime is becoming rampant on St. Maarten it is imperative that persons who witnessed this latest shooting should contact the police department with whatever information they have on the shooting that took place Sunday night. Persons who want to give information annoumously should do so by calling the tipline 9300.
It is understood that the victim ran to the Philipsburg Police Station for shelter after receiving several gunshots. Sources say that when the victim reached the Police Station he collapsed and was rushed to the St. Maarten Medical Center for medical treatment. Press Prosecutor Karola Van Nie confirmed the shooting that took place Sunday night. She said so far no one knows the motive of the shooting as the victim was transported to the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) where he had to undergo emergency surgery. Information reaching SMN News states that the victim is known in the Cole Bay area as Donavan Mc Curdy  who once worked for the carwash at Tackling Gas Station, then he moved to the carwash located across from the Carousel Ice cream parlor in Cole Bay. Residents of Cole Bay said that the victim moves from one car wash to the next and they do not know him to be involved in criminal activities but instead an avid beer drinker.
“The victim could not be questioned so we really don’t know the reason for the shooting and who shot the victim," Van Nie said.

On Sunday the 16th August at approximately eight o’clock in the night the central dispatched received a call that a man had been shot in the area of Old Street in the Back street. The victim a 45 year old male managed to run to the Police station where he collapsed. Ambulance personnel were called and the victim was taken to the medical center and was treated for several gunshot wounds. The victim is still in a very critical state in the hospital.
