European Cross-Border Program on track

MARIGOT:--- On Wednesday, September 9, 2015, a steering committee meeting was held at the Prefecture on the establishment of the first European cross-border program for Saint-Martin/Sint Maarten. This European program implementation and success is being observed under the microscope of Brussels up to this date.

The board of authority represented by Prefete Anne Laubiès, the President of the Collective of St. Martin, Aline Hanson and Prime Minister of Sint Maarten, Marcel Gumbs, gathered around the table with specialists of each establishment in order to resolve some technical issues and finalize the overall program of the evaluation phase, which will move to the operational phase in January 2016.

The Asconit firm, recruited by the Collectivite of St. Martin, presented environmental assessments of the program. In regard to the objectives of Europe 2020, the environmental stakes are high, since 85% of the 10 million Euros’ allocated by the European cross-border program are dedicated to environmental issues. One of the programs main projects is the realization of a cleaning station in the Cole Bay area.

Prefete Laubiès, President Hanson and Prime Minister Gumbs, are particularly attentive to the success of this first cross-border development program of 2015-2020, whose primary objective is to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants of both sides of the island.
