Former Taxi Driver tortured to death --- Family contesting cause of death.

PHILIPSBURG:---- A well-known former taxi driver known in the community as Alberto “Freaky” Gumbs has been tortured to death by some unknown persons. According to information reaching SMN News the former taxi driver told some persons in his neighborhood that he was saving monies to buy a vehicle about two nights ago and this apparently caused the perpetrators to torture him to death. SMN News learnt that the body of the former taxi driver was found with burn wounds on his back and belly. along with other visible wounds. SMN News learnt that the body of Gumbs was found by some friends who went to look for him at his apartment in Dutch Quarter when they saw his lifeless body in his apartment.
Relatives of the dead man said they will contest the decision of the police doctor who ruled the man died of natural causes even though the body of Gumbs bore several burnt wounds and other bruises. Some members of the family who spoke to SMN News said they will go as far as possible to seek justice because some years ago one of their brothers they identified as Jack Gumbs was murdered and the case has never been solved. The body of Alberto Gumbs had burnt wounds even on his back, the family said it appeared as though the killers hot an iron and burn their relative both on his back and belly before killing him, yet the police doctor ruled he died of natural causes.
SMN News contacted press prosecutor Karola Van Nie who said she could not comment on the case and that SMN News should make contact with KPSM. SMN News also tried reaching several members of the management team of KPSM Tuesday night for a comment but none of them could be reached by telephone including the Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson.
