The consumer price index for Sint Maarten has increased in the month of
August 2015 by 0.2 percent compared to that of June 2015.
When comparing average consumer prices over a twelve month period (Aug.
2014 to Aug. 2015), an increase of 0.9 percent was recorded compared to the same period one year earlier.
This is evident from the data released by the Department of Statistics (STAT)
today.

Expenditure Categories – increases largely offset by decreases
In August 2015, five of the nine expenditure categories became more expensive, whilst four became cheaper. Amongst the more expensive were the categories; ‘Food’ (+0.7%),
‘Housing’ (+0.1%),‘Household Furnishing & Appliances’ (+0.6%), ‘Medical Care’ (+0.3%),
‘Transport & Communication’ (+0.6%). Whereas decreases were recorded for the expenditure categories ‘Beverages and Tobacco’, ‘Clothing and Footwear’ ‘Recreation & Education’ and ‘Miscellaneous’ of -0.4%, -0.6%, -1.6% and -0.2% respectively.
