PHILIPSBURG:--- On Friday, December 4, the Interact Club of Sundial and other students of Sundial launched its “Leaders are also Readers” project at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library for ten (10) weeks. The objective of the project is to get our senior citizens within the community to share information with the younger generation, and this case the Sundial Interact club and the students of Sundial. The objective is also for the elders to read to the students and vice versa.
At last Friday’s session, five (5) senior citizens from the Helping Hands Foundation and Mr. Jocelyn Arndell shared information about St. Maarten’s history and shared information about their past professions to the group that was present. Poems were also recited by a representative of the Helping Hands Foundation, which motivated the group to make wise decisions, and to choose education as a way to improve their economic and social situation.
The exchange session between the elder and younger generation will continue this Friday, Dec. 11th at the Philipsburg Jubilee library at 2pm, where it will take place for the next 8 weeks.
The Sundial Interact Club is sponsored by the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise and meets every 1st and 3rd Wednesday at 12:30pm at the Sundial school.
Principal Peterson-Regales, School Advisors, Tr. Wendy and Tr. France, the members of the Sundial Interact club, and Ms. Marcellia Henry, President of the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise, would like to thank Ms. Jackie Morris for coming up with this excellent idea and for facilitating this process of having seniors share their wealth of knowledge with the youths, and for having both generations read to each other as well.
