TelEm Group thanks Telecom regulator for update on interference investigation.

Pond Island:--- TelEm Group is thanking local telecommunication regulator, Bureau of Telecommunication and Post (BTP) for pinpointing areas of possible interference that is affecting the company’s mobile voice and data subscribers.
TelEm Group recently asked the BTP to step in, after TelCell mobile subscribers complained of interference in several areas on Dutch St. Maarten, suspecting outside interference.
According to the BTP, various scans they have carried out points to some interference coming from the Pic Paradis area and also from neighbouring St.Kitts.
The BTP says it is continuing to monitor the situation and presently does not have a clear frequency that TelEm Group can utilize to alleviate the problem. In the meantime negotiations will continue with the BTP other parties to find a permanent solution as soon a possible.
According to TelEm Group Chief Technical Officer (CTO) Mr. Eldert Louisa, the BTP has received some positive news from its counterpart in St. Kitts that a carrier there may be adjusting its frequency within short, which could help minimize frequency interference on the TelCell mobile network.
“We are most grateful to the BTP St. Maarten for assisting us with the interference issue on behalf of our customers whom we continue to ask to be patient with us while the interference continues and we try to resolve this matter with the local regulators help,” said Mr. Louisa.
He said TelEm Group is especially thankful for the update from the BTP so that customers can also be kept informed about a matter that is beyond the company’s control
